Hillcrest Surgical Unit is an Urgent Care Center. Urgent Care Centers are same-day clinics that can handle a variety of medical problems that need to be treated right away but are not considered true emergencies. Almost half the patients attending 24-hour hospital casualties are not true emergencies or requiring admission. Guardian Urgent Care is not a substitute for your GP but is available when you need help but can’t get in with your doctor and do not require emergency care as described below.
Symptoms that can be evaluated and treated at an Urgent Care Center include:
- Vomiting or persistent diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Wheezing or shortness of breath
- Dehydration
- Moderate flu-like symptoms
- Sprains, strains and stable, closed fractures
- Small cuts that may require stitches
- Migraines
- Allergic reactions
- Abscesses and skin lesions needing excision
- Concussion
- Minor burns
- Ingrown toenails
- Ear wax compaction
Symptoms that are best evaluated in a hospital casualty include:
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Weakness/numbness on one side
- Slurred speech
- Serious burns
- Head or eye injury
- Aggression/confusion
- Severe or multiple broken bones
- Seizures
- Vaginal bleeding with pregnancy
